Today was Sammy's surgery day. We had to be at the hospital at 07:45a to check in. We arrived and Chris Brooks called us back right away and gave Sammy a koala bear to help him through surgery.

They also let him pick another little prize out of this bowlful of kids toys. Once registered, we went upstairs.

My mom had worked all noc last noc and stayed up to be there with me and Sammy. We didn't wait very long until they took Sammy back to the surgery 'holding' area. He had to undress and put on a gown... which he didn't like very much, but he was very cooperative with the girls in anything they asked him to do.

Kami Bates was his nurse. Her little boy use to attend daycare with Sammy. We got him all settled and hooked to monitors and she brought him back a huge stack of stickers! He was loving the extra attention! I stayed with him until time for him to go back. They gave him versed and atropine while we waited in 'holding.' He was so funny b/c after a while you could tell the versed was working b/c he would start to say stuff and realize he wasn't making since... and he would smile, giggle and rub his eyes! He was so funny! Like watching a miniture drunk! He did very well until it came time for them to take him to the back and then he started crying. I kept telling him if he told the girls who his mom was, that they would take good care of him! The nurse with him said she would let them know and they did take great care of him!
While he was in surgery, I ran downstairs as my cousin Becca just had her baby! This is her 2nd baby and she was to be induced next week as they estimated the baby to be 8lbs at 36 weeks! The baby however had different plans! Her water broke yesterday morning by 1p she was already dilated to 8cm. They called my aunt at 3p and said it was "showtime"! Everyone kept waiting for the call the baby was here... as we waited and waited ... and waited... the call never came in. Finally, at 8p last noc they called and said the baby was here. After about 4 hours of pushing they ended up doing a c/s! The baby is a healthy 9lbs 15oz! Becca looks completely worn out, but her baby is beautiful! He is just perfect! So chubby and has great color! Becca said he had a small cut on his head from when they tried to use the vacumm to get him out!

I didn't visit with my oousin very long and ran back upstairs to wait for Sammy to be done with surgey! Shortly after I was back upstairs, he was done and in recovery. He had gotten sick once while back in recovery but overall did really well.

The doctor said that Sammy had so much fluid and it was so thick that he couldn't believe Sammy could hear the things that he did! He said he had to use a huge vacumm on him to get all the fluid out! I am in hopes that his hearing will improve and that his speech will get better as well. He told Jason tonight after we got home that Jason was too loud! That is the first time I have ever heard that!

He spent the rest of the evening carrying around his koala bear! It is too funny! At least he appreciates it! He asked me if I saw the girls that took care of him today at work. I said "yes... why?" He told me that he wanted me to tell them "thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Made me smile!

OH! I am so happy for you that it went so well!
Is it wrong to say it's great news that Sammy had so much fluid in there? Maybe this will be the end of all the speech worries!?!
Congrats on the new (HUGE) baby! Really? 36 weeks??? HOLY! That would've been an 11 pound baby!! YIKES!
I'm so glad Sammy did so well with his surgery! What a relief that he's already hearing so much better! He looks so cute in his cap & gown... too little to be wearing all that stuff. Tell him Hannah says "Hello" & we'll see him this weekend. Be sure & tell Becca "Congrats" on her beautiful boy, too!
Way to go Sammy, what a trooper you were. I'm so glad that it all went so well, hopefully no more problems.
Holy that is one big baby, imagine if she had've gone to term, wow. What a cutie.
So glad it went so well for Sammy! Was thinking about him yesterday. I bet you will notice a huge improvement with speech now that he'll be able to hear so much better. Its always nice to have surgery where your mom is a nurse, its like getting the royal treatment!!! Wow, your cousins baby was an oz shy of 10 lbs, no wonder he didn't want to come out the old fashioned way!!!
I am so happy that everything went smoothly!!! 10 lb baby! Holy! Congrats!
Good job, Sammy! Love how he told Jason he was too loud. :) I can't imagine what it was sounding like before, ya know?
CC I am so glad things went well! Sounds like Sammy did great! He's lucky to have a mom with some "pull" at the hospital!
