Annie

Annie had to go yesterday to a urinary dysfunction clinic. She has been a bedwetter since the age of 5. I finally pressed to have a urinalysis done and supposedly it showed nothing. Dr. Chamberlin put her on DDAVP to try to help her stop wetting. It did absolutely nothing for her. So, we went back for a follow up, which they had forgotten to get a hold of the pediatric urologist. So, finally, they got through to the urologist and they ordered a KUB and a renal ultrasound. The renal ultrasound showed that Annie has fluid in one of her kidneys. She was put on antibiotics, benefiber, miralax and a bowel and bladder program. Which, is very hard to keep up with. Our insurance doesn't cover miralax or the antibiotic. So, we have to pay for that out of pocket. Luckily, I can get meds through the hospital for about half the cost of retail pharmacies. Annie has to go for a voiding cystogram Feb 12 to see if she does in deed have reflux from the bladder into the kidney. My dad and some of my cousins have had this same problem. I wish I would have pursued this more as the most damage is done before 6 years of age. I feel like I really failed as a mom on this one. My dad had to have his kidney removed because of all the damage that was done to it. He was in his mid thirtys when it happened. There is also a chance that my other children could also have the same problem. They recommend having the other children tested if Annie does indeed have reflux. I wish this appt for the voiding cystogram was sooner, but at least now we are getting it done.

oh honey, you haven't failed as a mum, don't be silly. You are a fabulous mum and those kids are all so lucky to have you. Remember, you are the one who pushed for the tests etc, if it weren't for you this could have been a worse situation. I feel so bad for the little bug having to go through all of this. I remember when they had to do the kidney reflux tests on Flynn, he hated it so much.
