Day 3, 4 and 5 of construction

Day 3 of construction consisted of taking the rest of the siding off of the garage. They cleaned up their mess from the chimney and that was pretty much it. They were done before noon.

Day 4 of construction was devoted to the new septic system.
They had to dig a huge hole in the yard for the new tank to be put in, then they had to take out the old tank and then dig the area for our leech bed. Our old septic system was so bad and in need of repairs that our yard never dried out! Our old leech bed was just filled with water. They were amazed we hadn't had more trouble with our septic system. Even when they were putting in the new tank, there was so much water that our new tank had water all around it! Our old drain pipe was so clogged up that it is amazing we didn't have water in our house backed up! So, once the new system was in then they asked me to use as much water as I could to start filling the new tank up. There was so much water in the ground that they were afraid that it would pop up the new tank! They busted up and dug up the old tank. Even though our drain pipe was in bad shape, they said our tank was not and it was a shame that they had to bust it up and remove it. However, the septic tank has to be set to the number of bedrooms in the house. So, with our addition, there wasn't much we could do. Our septic had to be upgraded.... it needed it anyway! This is the mess of our yard at the end of day 4...

Day 5 of construction consisted of digging out for where the basement part to the new addition is going to go. Our contractor, Gary was out this morning running a machine that packs down dirt to fill in the hole from the old septic tank. I am sure he is going to be stiff and sore as it is similar to a jack hammer! This area didn't look so big when it was just steaks in the yard, but once the digging has begun, it looks huge! Once the dirt is removed from the basement area, for now it is getting piled into the yard... looks very tempting for some awnry children that I know!
By the end of today, they set in the footings and Gary and his grandson Jordan were digging the area out so they would be already to pour tomorrow. This is our new basement area. Looks so big and the more that gets done, the more excited I get!

Looks like it's going to be great! Glad the old tank/pipes held up until you could get them out of there...backing up in the house would have been a nightmare!
