The old Oak tree

I don't think I have mentioned how the old oak tree in the holler between the neighbors to my parents house fell down. It fell sometime in January when it was really snowy and icey. The tree has been standing for as long as I can remember, and it has been there since my dad bought the property in the 1960's... Jason counted 125 rings at least. So he was guessing it was at least 125 years old!
This sis my dad walking up the chain. We were having a to move the big round pieces with the tractor and chain...

Jason is sitting on the front-end of the tractor in order to give it more weight on the front to make it up the hillside...

They have made it to almost the top of the hill.... what a lot of work! Glad we have the tractor!

This is the view from my parents front door....

JM decided that he would attempt to swing the hammer to help put a wedge into the pieces. In the background is my parents house...

My dad's saw has a 20inch blade on it and they were still having trouble reaching the inner depths to the tree trunk!

The end of a long day... all the hard work is done....

this is all that is left of the old oak tree that has stood its ground for so long!

this is the twins and their new wagon... they went to help with the clean up!

we still have more work to do... it is an ongoing project... we have been out there 3 times already... but there is always more to do...
